Popular Grocery Store Announced To Close Its Store Permanently
The Family Fare grocery store located at 17158 Highway J on Lake Wissota will permanently close in March, the company announced.
SpartanNash, which operates the grocery store, informed the Department of Workforce Development of the closure in a letter this week, saying 45 jobs will be lost.
“It is expected that affected employees will have their employment separated beginning March 16, 2025, and may continue through March 27, 2025,” the letter reads.
There is no union representation of affected employees. There are no applicable bumping rights for affected employees. Two of the employees are salaried, while the other 43 are hourly employees.
“This announcement and the above timetable are based on the best information currently available.
However, various factors may still affect these plans and the timing of employee separations. You will be informed of any changes or as additional information becomes available,” the letter reads.
A Festival Foods opened at 1109 Chippewa Crossing Boulevard on the east side of Chippewa Falls in October 2023. According to Google Maps, it is roughly an eight-minute drive from the Family Fare location that is closing.
Family Fare was formerly one of 26 Gordy’s Market locations. Many of those locations either closed or were purchased between 2017 and 2019.
Nash Finch, the parent company of SpartanNash, purchased five of the remaining Gordy’s stores for $15.1 million in an auction in March 2019, and they renamed those locations Family Fare Supermarkets.
The Family Fare location in downtown Chippewa Falls remains open.
