Solo Trip, New Friend

On a solo trip to Barcelona, I had planned a day of exploring the city’s rich history and beautiful architecture. I wandered down winding streets, taking in the colors and sounds of a place I had always dreamed of visiting. While passing by a small, tucked-away art gallery, I decided to step inside. The gallery was filled with vibrant paintings that spoke to me immediately.

As I was admiring one particularly striking piece, I noticed a woman next to me doing the same. After a few moments, she turned to me and said, “There’s something so captivating about this one, don’t you think?” I agreed, and before I knew it, we were deep in conversation, discussing not only the artwork but also our lives. She was a traveler too, visiting Barcelona on a break from her job in France. We shared our stories—about why we chose to travel solo, the freedom it brings, and the lessons we had learned from our journeys.

What was supposed to be a quick stop at the gallery turned into an entire afternoon of wandering the city together. We stopped for tapas, explored hidden spots off the beaten path, and laughed like old friends. By the end of the day, we exchanged contact information, promising to meet up again someday. In that moment, I realized how travel had gifted me not just new experiences, but also a new friend.
