My Husband’s Mistress Sent Me a Box on My Birthday – I Was Stunned by What I Found Inside

A mysterious box arrived at my door on my 32nd birthday. It was supposedly from my husband’s mistress. What I found inside left me in disbelief and nearly turned my world upside down.

You know those birthdays that start amazing and then take a wild turn? Well, that was my 32nd birthday. I’m Lara, and let me tell you, this particular birthday left me with a story I’ll never forget. It all started with a mysterious box that showed up at my door. A box that would nearly turn my world upside down.

“Happy birthday, beautiful,” my husband Dexter whispered, his arms wrapped around me as I blinked awake that morning. His grey eyes sparkled with mischief. “I’ve got a breathtaking surprise for you later.”

I grinned, snuggling closer. “Can’t wait. Any hints?”

He shook his head, a playful smile tugging at his lips. “Nope. You’ll just have to be patient.”

Our story began ten years ago. Dexter was my best friend turned soulmate, and now, seven years into our marriage, we had a perfect little family with our son, Dave.

“Mommy! Daddy!” A blur of energy burst into our room. Dave, our five-year-old wholesome naughtiness, jumped onto our bed. “It’s party day!”

Dexter laughed, ruffling Dave’s hair. “Sure is, champ. Ready to help set up?”

“Yeah!” Dave pumped his fist in the air. “Can I blow up the balloons?”

I hugged them both, feeling truly blessed. “Of course you can, sweetie. Let’s make this the best party ever.”

As we started our day, I couldn’t help but feel a surge of gratitude. My family was perfect in every sense of the word, and I was so thankful to Dexter for coming into my life, first as my best friend and now as my husband.

“What are you thinking about?” Dexter asked, catching me lost in thought.

I smiled, leaning in to kiss him softly. “Just how lucky I am to have you and Dave. You’ve made my life complete.”

Fast forward, the party was in full swing by evening.

Our backyard hummed with laughter and chatter as about 15 of our closest friends and family members mingled. The air was filled with the aroma of grilled burgers and the sweet scent of my homemade cupcakes.

“Lara, these spring rolls are to die for!” my best friend, Sarah, mumbled between bites. “You’ve outdone yourself this time.”

I beamed, pleased with the compliment. “Thanks! I stayed up late perfecting them. Try the dipping sauce… it’s a new recipe.”

Across the yard, kids squealed as they chased each other with water guns. Dave led the charge, his face split in a wide grin as he ducked behind a tree to avoid a spray from his cousin.

The party was a perfect blend of adult conversation and children’s laughter. I mingled with our guests, making sure everyone had enough to eat and drink.

It was moments like these that made life worth living, surrounded by loved ones, and celebrating another year of life.

As I was about to join a group of college friends, my phone buzzed in my pocket. It was a call from an unknown number.

“Hello?” I answered, moving to a quieter corner of the yard.

A gruff voice responded. “Mrs. Fog? I have a parcel for you. The sender requested you collect it alone. I’m outside your house.”

My brow furrowed. “Uh, okay. That’s a bit odd. Who’s it from?”

“I’m not at liberty to say, ma’am. Just following instructions. Can you come out?”

I hesitated, then agreed. “Alright, I’ll be right out.”

I hurried back inside and scanned the room for Dexter, but he was deep in conversation with his friends. Shrugging, I made my way to the front door, curiosity building with each step.

The doorbell rang, and when I opened the door, the delivery guy stood on our porch, a large box in his arms. He was a middle-aged man with a scraggly beard, and a worn cap pulled low over his eyes.

“Sign here, please,” he said, thrusting a clipboard at me.

I scribbled my signature, my mind racing. Could this be Dexter’s surprise?

“Is this from my husband?” I asked him.

The man shrugged. “No idea! Just doing my job, ma’am. Have a good evening.”

He handed me the box and turned to leave. I called out, “Wait! Can you at least tell me who sent it?”

But he was already halfway down the driveway, pretending not to hear me.

“Finally, my gift has arrived!” I exclaimed, grinning like a kid on Christmas morning.

Taking the box, I stepped onto the patio, my fingers itching to open it. It was pretty heavier than I expected, and I could hear something shifting inside as I moved it. My heart raced with anticipation as I lifted the lid.

But as I peered inside, my smile vanished.

There, scribbled in red marker, were the words: “FROM YOUR HUSBAND’S LOVER!”

My hands shook as I unwrapped the contents. I froze. It was my missing jewelry set, the one I’d reported stolen months ago.

Beneath the necklace lay a note: “You don’t know me but I know everything about you, Lara. I’m your husband’s mistress. I’m tired of him picking on you all the time, so I decided to teach him an unforgettable lesson. I’ll be waiting for you right now at the address you’ll find below. Come alone!”

Tears blurred my vision as I read the note again and again. Dexter had stolen my jewelry for his mistress? My perfect world crumbled around me.

I looked back at the party, seeing Dexter laughing with his friends, completely oblivious to the bomb that had just been dropped on my life. How could he act so normal? How long had this been going on?

Without a word to anyone, I slipped away from the party and into my car. My hands trembled as I started the engine, the address from the note burning in my mind.

The drive was a blur. Tears streamed down my face as I replayed every moment of our marriage, searching for signs I might have missed. Had there been late nights at work that I’d brushed off? Mysterious phone calls he’d taken in private?

“How could you, Dexter?” I whispered, gripping the steering wheel tighter. “After everything we’ve been through?”

The sun had set by the time I reached the address, casting long shadows across the landscape. It led me to an old, abandoned house on the outskirts of town.

The paint was peeling, and several windows were boarded up. Crickets chirped in the darkness as I stepped out of the car.

My heart pounded as I approached the door. Every instinct screamed at me to turn back, to go home and confront Dexter in the safety of our house. But I pushed forward, needing answers.

The porch steps creaked under my weight. I raised my hand to knock, then hesitated. What if this was a trap? What if there was no mistress, and this was all some elaborate scam?

Before I could change my mind, the door creaked open, revealing a dark, empty room. I stepped inside, my eyes struggling to adjust to the darkness.

“Hello?” My voice echoed in the emptiness. “Is anyone here?”

The floorboards groaned beneath my feet as I ventured further into the house. A musty smell filled my nostrils, and I could see cobwebs in the corners.

“This is crazy,” I muttered to myself. “What am I doing here?”

Suddenly, lights flooded the room, momentarily blinding me.

The door behind me burst open with a bang, and a chorus of voices shouted, “WE PLAYED YOU! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!”

I whirled around, shocked to see my friends, family, and Dexter pouring into the room, all wearing huge grins.

“What… what’s going on?” I stammered.

Dexter stepped forward, wrapping me in a tight hug. “Surprise, honey. This was the gift I promised you.”

I pulled back, searching his face for answers. “But… the jewelry… the note… your mistress?”

He smiled sheepishly, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. “I bought you a replica of the set you lost. The ‘mistress’ note? All part of the prank. There’s no other woman, Lara. There never could be.”

I stood there, speechless, as the reality sank in. Relief, joy, and a touch of annoyance washed over me in waves.

“You… you jerk!” I exclaimed, playfully punching his chest. “I hate you for doing this. Do you have any idea what I’ve been through in the last hour?”

Dexter laughed, pulling me close again. “No, you don’t hate me. You love me. And I’m sorry for scaring you, but I wanted to make this birthday unforgettable.”

I couldn’t help but laugh, the tension of the past hour melting away. “You guys are terrible. But I love you all.”

As we made our way back to our house to continue the party, I couldn’t stop smiling. What started as a nightmare had turned into the most memorable birthday ever.

Dexter squeezed my hand as we walked. “So, was it a breathtaking surprise?”

I raised an eyebrow at him. “Oh, it was breathtaking alright. Just wait till your birthday, mister. Payback’s coming.”

He gulped dramatically, making everyone laugh. “I think I might have unleashed a monster.”

As we celebrated the rest of the birthday party at our house, I was glad it ended well. As for Dexter’s upcoming birthday? Well, let’s just say I had some planning to do.
