Popular Restaurant Closes Its Doors Permanently
A popular café and restaurant has closed its doors for good.
The Café Rouge on Seamoor Road, Westbourne, has stopped trading.
A notice has been placed on the door of the popular eatery.
It reads: “Due to the café’s permanent closure on 17th of December, some of the items from the menu are no longer available.
“We apologise for any inconvenience.
“Café Rouge team.”
Self-described as The UK’s original French restaurant, the chain was founded in London in 1989.
It also has branches in Brighton, London and Portsmouth.
Last year, Cafe Rouge founder Karen Jones was recognised with a damehood for her contribution to the hospitality industry.
Ms Jones was one of a number of business leaders to appear on the Queen’s Birthday honours list.
The industry leader helped set up and float Theme Restaurants Ltd in her early twenties, before launching Cafe Rouge.
In the early 2000s, Ms Jones led Spirit Group, one of the country’s biggest pub firms, before its £2.7 billion takeover by Punch Taverns in 2006.
Speaking at the time she said she was deeply honoured and that she felt incredibly fortunate.
The Daily Echo previously attempted to contact Cafe Rouge but received no response.
