According to her family, Rita Lee, a rock icon, passed away at 75.
The Brazilian singer, who became known as the “Queen of Rock,” reportedly passed away at her Sao Paolo, Brazil, home “surrounded by the love of her entire family.”
The Daily Mirror reports that Lee received therapy for lung cancer after receiving a diagnosis two years prior.
In an emotional statement confirming her loss, her family said: “In this moment of deep sadness, the family appreciates everyone’s affection and love.”
Joao, Rita’s son, remarked that his mother was now “a star in the sky”.
What an exciting and remarkable life you had, Joao remarked.
“Esteemed and cherished by so many. It was very innovative. My admiration for you is unending. was constant. What a privilege and honor it is to be your son.
“What a privilege and honor it has been to receive your education. Accept your principles. I’ve never encountered someone like you. Your tenacity, bravery, sense of justice, brilliance, sensitivity, sense of humor, and many other excellent qualities.”
“I’m already content and happy if I contribute even a small amount of the happiness and laughter you spread worldwide.”
Rita’s admirers quickly joined in the tributes, love messages, and sympathy for her family.
“Rita Lee, RIP. Os Mutantes is one of the coolest bands ever,” one person wrote.
Another person commented, “R.I.P. Rita Lee, Queen of Brazilian Rock’n’Roll. #ritalee.”

Lee’s career began to take off in the 1960s, but she continued to put out albums until her final one, Reza, was released in 2012.
The Latin Grammy Awards presented the Brazilian superstar with the Lifetime Achievement Award last year.
