Shania Twain criticized after hosting 2024 People’s Choice Awards
Don’t you just love those superstars who are able to dip in and out of the spotlight whenever they wish?
You the know the kind I mean; those bonafide, tried and tested A-listers who can sometimes go an entire year without being talked about, only to steal attention like a well-trained thief when the time comes.
If you ask me, Shania Twain is one such star. Sure, she can arguably lay claim to being one of the most popular country music stars ever, but that doesn’t mean she’s on the front cover of a different magazine every week, nor that her business constantly becomes the subject of salacious headlines on a regular basis.
So when the 59-year-old returned to the limelight to host the 2024 People’s Choice Country Awards, her fans were surely expecting big things. As it happened, though, there were apparently a good many people left disappointed with her performance…
The 2024 People’s Choice Country Awards were held at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Tennessee this past Thursday, September 26, and it was none other than celebrated country music star Shania Twain who was given the honor of hosting.
“Consider this your prerogative to have a little fun! ⭐️ The one and only @shaniatwain is hosting the People’s Choice Country Awards on 9/26! #PCCAs,” the official Instagram account of the show wrote back in June, 2024.
Yet the latest edition of the awards show didn’t appear to go down well with everyone. In fact, plenty of individuals were quick to criticize both the show and the decision to have Twain host.
Twain made a lavish entrance to proceedings, descending from the rafters on a heart-shaped seat dressed in a white fringe suit paired with a matching cowboy hat while Man! I Feel Like a Woman played in the background.
The singer made multiple outfit changes throughout the evening, and was her typically confident, exuberant self. Even that wasn’t enough to win the affections of the people watching at home, it seems, since no sooner had the show come to a close than did critics crawl from every nook and cranny to lambast the 2024 edition of the awards.
One person seethed on Instagram: “This whole show has been an embarrassment. Especially Shania Twain. And before you attack me asking me if I can sing or dance or host a show, no, I can’t – but several years ago the show had the greats, and it’s no longer that way and she’s an embarrassment. Let it go, Shania.”
Another stated: “[Shania] the worst host ever.”
A third opined: “What an awful show,” while another added: “Trying to look young“
“Not the best of host tonight [sic]!” wrote a fifth.
One particularly blunt commenter wrote: “Yea she looks really really bad!! So sad.”
It should go without saying that there were others who celebrated Twain – both her performance as host and her eye-catching appearance – but there can be no doubting that the naysayers were out in force.
Others appeared to take aim at the fact that the You’re Still the One hitmaker had died her hair blonde – we know, right, an entertainer actually dying their hair… who would dream of it? – while certain other factions appeared to be less than satisfied with the show itself.
In any case, the awards seemed to be enjoyed by all those present. I guess there’s always going to be people complaining either way!
