Elderly couple found brutally beaten and stabbed to death after missing 50th wedding anniversary celebration

Tragic Anniversary: Elderly Couple Found Murdered Before Their 50th Celebration
A sense of profound grief and shock pervaded a family as an elderly couple, both in their seventies, were discovered brutally murdered in their Newton, Massachusetts home on Sunday morning, instead of attending their 50th-anniversary celebration. In a chilling turn of events, the wife’s nonagenarian mother was also found dead at the scene.

The Heartrending Discovery

The couple, Bruno D’Amore, 74, and his wife Gilda D’Amore, 73, were scheduled to commemorate their golden wedding anniversary with a blessing at their local 10 a.m. Mass. However, their conspicuous absence raised alarms. Reverend Dan Riley of Our Lady Help of Christians, who was supposed to officiate their anniversary celebration, expressed his distress to WCVB, “When they didn’t show up, we became alerted, and myself and a number of the staff spent the day there.”

One of the family members, concerned by the couple’s no-show, left the waiting guests at the church to check on them. It was this family member who made the gruesome discovery of the couple’s lifeless bodies.

The Crime Scene and Initial Investigation

Middlesex District Attorney Marian T. Ryan shared some disturbing details about the crime scene during a press conference. She said, “There were clear indications of a struggle in one of the bedrooms, including shattered furniture and a blood-stained crystal paperweight. We also discovered a knife bearing reddish-brown stains in the kitchen.”

The investigation revealed signs of forced entry and bare footprints covered in blood, adding a chilling layer to the already distressing situation. Surveillance camera footage captured images of the suspected murderer, a 41-year-old man named Christopher Ferguson, in the vicinity of the D’Amore residence that same morning.

Arrest and Charge

Christopher Ferguson was apprehended on Monday and charged with murder, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and burglary. Further charges may be added pending the outcomes of the autopsies.

A Parallel Incident Raises Questions

Intriguingly, another break-in occurred close to the D’Amore’s residence that Sunday morning. However, investigators have not yet confirmed any correlation between the two incidents.

A Terrible Loss

We deeply regret that these innocent lives were horrifically snuffed out. We extend our heartfelt condolences to their family and pray for the departed souls to rest in peace.
